Stain Treatment on Carpets & Upholstery

Treatment

Carpet seems to be a magnet for all kinds of spills. Red wine, pet urine, blood, soft drinks, beetroot, beer, paint, nail polish, coffee, tea, ink, oil, grease… and so it goes on.

At 0800tulips the best advice we can give in the event of a spill is DON’T PANIC.

The key is to act quickly. For most spills the first course of action is to scoop up any solid material, place on a kitchen paper towel to absorb excess liquid (blot only very gently) and then splash on cold water. Even if this may seem to cause stain to spread you’re doing the right thing. Next place on more paper towels. Don’t push down as this can force whatever has been spilled into the carpet fibre.

Now leave it alone, and relax knowing that your quick action will stop the stain from setting. If it’s evening you can go to bed and not worry. Otherwise pick up the phone and call us at 0800tulips. We’ll advise you on what cleaning preparation to use. If it sounds extremely serious and damaging we’ll come to your place to appraise what can be done.

Allergies and Asthma- 50% less water usage

Allergies and Asthma
Carpet acts as a trap for airborne particles grounded through natural gravity.

Health professionals sometimes recommend that allergy and asthma patients remove carpet from their homes. But those recommendations are generally based on faulty assumptions. In fact, clean, dry, well-maintained carpet actually improves air quality.

Carpet acts as a trap for airborne particles grounded through natural gravity.

Professional Testing Labs studied the distribution of airborne dust associated with normal activities on hard and soft flooring surfaces. Their findings showed that walking on hard surfaces disturbed more particles. These particles became airborne and entered the breathing zone. In contrast, carpeted surfaces trapped more particles so that walking disturbed fewer particles. Result: less dust in the breathing zone over carpeted floors.

So in conclusion  clean carpet is a more safer option to prevent  Asthma & Allergies, as compared to wooden or hard surfaces.

Only the A team at 0800tulips deliver an ultra sterile clean with 50% less water usage due to the latest technology.

Steam-Mop can cause damage to floor coverings

Added Saturday, October 9th, 2010

I have been visiting a few clients to assist them with problems to their floors (commercial & domestic), ie ” hard to clean scuff marks”.

Surprisingly most of them are equipped with a magic mop, or  electric steam mop.

The causes of their problems is damage to the protective coating on their vinyl & lino floor.  Most modern floor coverings have PU coated surfaces, which protects the presentation & wear and tear of the floor. When we clean floors with intense heat, the heat breaks down the coating & impacts directly with every thing we do to the floor. The floor covering becomes less stain proof & gets dirtier easily. Steam even burns the polymer coatings from the vinyl (usually commercial floors).

Polished wooden floors become duller, imagine the cost of sanding & polyurethaning to bring back the shine.  Heat may also soften the adhesive which will ultimately lift the tiles.

Sure, a steam mop can kill bacteria, but how much bacteria do you need to kill…..? this is  a sledge hammer approach. Washing with luke warm water will also clean your floor just as well.

Just ask a flooring manufacutrer for their recommmendation. A cleaning method with a steam mop will not be in their recommend list. If you have to try this gizmo  then you should ask the steam mop reseller if they can give you a wriiten guarantee for damages this may cause to your property before buying it.

I have seen on the TV that the steam mop perfectly cleans carpet, but where does the dust & debry go…..?  Carpet should  be cleaned by a professional technician. Who will rinse & flush all contamanents. Carpet cleaners use stong water pressure, hot water & equipment with very strong suction. Virtually no water is left in the carpet piles.
